week 2 if..then..because

There are a multitude of teachers and ways to teach, just as there are a multitude of students and ways to learn.  If the teacher is in tune with their students and gives them the structure, while at the same time the freedom to learn, then knowledge can properly be acquired in all forms (context, morals, ethics) because it gives the opportunity to the student of becoming a "lifetime" learner.

  1. Effie,

I agree with your assertion regarding the wide range of teachers/learners, however would challenge you to rethink your rationale. Specifically, how do freedom and structure come together to encourage life-long learning? Can you provide a specific example/experience to illustrate your assertion?

  2. I wanted to convey the structure or framework is actually like a safety net of ideas and concepts that students can fall back on while they explore and discover the world around them. For example, in science the scientific method is a key component and it leads students to critically look at their surroundings. So if I were teaching this method to my students I would lay out the ground work of it, and then perhaps allow the students to create their own hypothesis about something of their choosing and have them try to prove it. By giving them the freedom to investigate something of interest to them I would hope they would better understand not only the scientific method, but also its application to the real world, and continue to apply it through their life.

  3. I would like to totally ratify my week one If.. then.. statement

If the students entering the TCPCG program are all different from each other in many ways (i.e. learning styles and ideologies) then we will have a lot to be learned from one another because each one of us brings to the mix something different and each of us has many things to be learned.
